This page has the report and photos from Suzann's after the trip.

Buenos Dias Amigos-

No habla English o Espanol muchas bueno…..due to acute bronchitis I acquired on the trip to Mexico so I am asking that this be shared with you now. Hopefully you have read about the trip in the District Newsletter and we will have a program/report of the trip at a future meeting.

When I got home Monday and opened the acknowledgement of the $75 contribution to The Rotary Foundation signed by Hogie Hansen I had a much different appreciation of this contribution than any other that I have made to The Foundation since I joined Rotary! The three paragraphs of the letter have a much deeper meaning…..

The Rotarians in Mexico were so warm and gracious and they do like to celebrate!!! They are sincerely concerned about the needs of the people in their communities and appreciate the assistance they are receiving from our District and Rotary International through the matching grant program. It was not the fact that they were getting a new fire truck as we have experienced in our communities as a result of grants; they were getting a fire truck! The well being drilled at the edge of a town will mean that the people can get water locally rather having to haul it in as they have been doing since they no longer get water from the spring in the mountain. Families are so appreciative of having a wheelchair that would not have been possible otherwise. The District Ambassadorial Scholarship Chairman was pleased to learn of the potential of submitting an application for an inbound Todd Ambassadorial Scholar to Purdue!

I did meet one of the GSE Team members, Michel Reznik at a Rotary luncheon on Friday. He shared that their team has had several meetings preparing for their trip to Indiana. He was interested in our plans and even sought me out on Sunday to thank me again for sharing and to give me a small gift-a Mexico keychain. March is going to be a busy month!

Rotary truly is fellowship and community service-locally and internationally-working toward "World Understanding and Peace."

Muchas Gracias,

Suzann Shackleton
