November 9, 2005 "Veterans Among Us"

Veteran's Day commemoration. Other topics at the meeting: President Robert Geyer reported on the first meeting ever of district 6560 Paul Harris Society. It took place in Brownsburg, Indiana with 64 Rotarians in the local district having the distinction of being Paul Harris Society Founders. Eight people from the Attica Williamsport Clubs are members. The program of the Society consisted of Mark Daniel Maloney, Trustee of the rotary Foundation, 2004-2008. He spoke of the many things the Foundation does to promote education, literacy, eradicating polio, and promotion world peace and understanding. ..........More The keynote speaker was former Indiana Governor Edgar Whitcomb who shared his experiences in WWII and his capture by the Japanese, from whom he later escaped and returned to active duty flying over 20 missions prior to the end of the war. ............More On Monday, 07 November, ten local Rotarians and two ambassadorial scholars attended the 90th Anniversary of the Danville, Illinois Rotary Club. Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammer, Rotary International President shared his thoughts about expanding Rotary clubs into Russia, China, and Cuba. He also presented fourteen awards to area Rotarians for their contribution to the Rotary Foundation. Next week's program will be presented by participants of the NASA Space Station Program at Huntsville, Alabama. Thanksgiving week, the Rotary Club carries out their Apples for Teachers
