Napoleon Montano explains the programs and conditions of the  Hogar San Cristobal orphanage.

Lafayette Daybreak Rotarians, Caroline Briggs and John Morris were responsible for bringing Napoleon Montano for the November 23 program. He shared information about the Hogar San Cristobal.

Water for all uses has to be carried up the mountain to the village.  The round trip by foot takes about 3 hours.  The orphanage is working on a project to install a fresh water filtering system to not only have water for the use there but to also sell locally and have a source of income to sustain their programs.

They have been collecting donations to take to the orphanages and villagers of San Cristobal in El Salvador. Items may be used (reasonable condition) or new. They could really use the following items: backpacks or other similar bags, small dolls, cars, trucks, toys, pens, pencils, hairbrushes, combs, etc. They have a lot of crayons, but not many coloring or activity books. Basically, anything that a child might want and that is not too large.

Kathy Lubak and son Alex
It was a pleasure to learn more about Kathy at the meeting November 23. Kathy is a family practice doctor who works in St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital group. She always wanted to live in a small town and is happy living here. She and husband, Steve, have a 16 month old son Alex. Kathy grew up in Granite City, IL, where her mother worked as an instructional assistant and her dad worked in road construction and a steel mill. He also was a Rotarian. She lost her dad just this last year suddenly at the young age of 61 — so sorry, Kathy. After her medical training at St. Louis University Medical School, she did her residency in South Bend and decided to stay in Indiana. We are glad she did.
