Bob Shepherd introduced Mary Schoot, American Forestry Technology's senior research associate, as the speaker this morning.

The PowerPoint presentation gave the club members detailed information about the history, purpose and future plans of the company.

The plantings are clones of special trees developed and patented  for their superb qualities of growth that will produce veneer logs faster and of higher quality than trees in the woods or other plantation trees.  American Forestry Technology keeps detailed records on every tree to the extent that each has a GPS location, is measured each year and also has nutrient and water amounts recorded in the data base.

Technology is the key word in the entire process of growing, planting and caring for the thousands of trees in the West Point area.

The company does not currently have a web site.

The link below is from "Dave's Garden" website and also has an article from the Lafayette Journal Courier about the fascinating concept and operation of the company.
