March 8, 2006 Recognizing March as Disabilities Awareness Month, Ken Pavlack of West Lebanon, presented a program of inspiration and direction at the March 8 meeting of the Attica-Williamsport Rotary Club. Describing the changes that come to one's life, as the normal life becomes one of dependence on others and the ingenuity found in the individual capacity to improvise and adjust to life's unexpected problems, Mr. Pavlack described his transition from total independence to one of greater reliance on those around him.
To stay mentally and physically busy, finding activities to occupy one's time is essential to the life of the challenged individual. His point that sometime in the lives of all there is the probability of becoming disabled or becoming a caregiver for someone who is disabled gave pause to his listeners. But, he challenged for individuals not to overdo help; it is vital that the disabled do as much for themselves as is possible. ..More on caregivers His assessment of society's attitude toward the handicapped is noteworthy in its progress to assist and enable, and he exampled efforts by Purdue University to meet the daily needs of those physically challenged in the farming industry.....>>More __________________________ In other business, President Geyer reminded member of the coming District Conference and the need to register for attendance. Rotary District Conference is scheduled for April 7-9, 2006 at the Horizon Convention Center, Muncie, Indiana. This will be a joint conference of Districts 6540 and 6560.....>>More Steve Poston spoke of the opportunity available to students interested in making application for ambassadorial scholarships. These scholarships provide a yearly $26,000 award to qualified applicants.
