March 1, 2006 The past Wednesday morning was assessment and planning time for the local chapter of the Attica-Williamsport Rotary Club. Called an assembly, the club meets periodically to review past activities and to propose and adopt events for the ensuing year. Mr. Geyer informed the membership of the Quad-City meeting to be held at Purdue on the evening of 20 April. Rotary Clubs from Boswell, Otterbein, Attica-Williamsport, and Fowler will meet to hear an address by Purdue President Dr. Martin C. Jiscke. Reservations are necessary. Cindy Mason proposed the club institute a Duck Race with proceeds earmarked for local activities in Attica and Williamsport. She specifically mentioned the need for funding of the Attica Summer Park Program.
It was decided to postpone any activity on bringing the Harlem Ambassadors, a professional basketball team, to the area until there was further study given the idea. Priscilla Davis announced that there would be a Murder-Mystery at the Attica Public Library on 31 March, entitled, "Pasta, Passion, and Pistols." Mrs. Davis can be reached at the local library to reserve attendance. President Bob Geyer commented on the recently held speech contest and hoped it would be expanded and that the number of participants would increase. He expressed thanks to the students and their teachers from Attica and Seeger High Schools and to Priscilla Davis who chaired the event. >>More The local club voted to cast its vote for Robert W. Shumacher, past director from Anderson for membership on the Zone 30 Board of Directors. Daniel Askren, Rotary representative to the Harrison Commemorative Planning Committee who are involved with a community effort to recognize Senator Joseph Harrison's 40 years in the Indiana State Legislature, will report on progress of the committee and the involvement of the Rotary and its members at next week's meeting.
