Kathy Walker, Coordinator of the Fountain and Warren County Tobacco
Prevention and Cessation Program, is shown receiving the appreciation of the
Attica-Williamsport Rotary Club's president, Bob Geyer, following her
presentation to the club Wednesday. While she spoke of the program’s vision
and mission, she emphasized the organizations main goals, designed to build
strong community-based partnerships, the protection against secondhand smoke,
reducing youth initiation and access to tobacco, and the promotion of using
cessation resources.
In her presentation, she pointed out a number of findings and
statistics, indicating that Indiana has the 7th highest adult smoking rate
in the nation. Of pregnant
Fountain County women, 26% smoke during their pregnancy. Of pregnant Warren
County women, 21% smoke during pregnancy. Prevalence in other populations
indicate that 25% of the adult population smoke, 21% of high school students
smoke, as do 8% of middle school students. >>More

Priscilla Davis shared that the Rotary speech contest is scheduled for 22
February at 8:00 a.m., at the Harrison Country Club. The public is invited.
Priscilla was also presented with a "birthday cupcake".

Suzann Shackleton reported on the GSE team coming to the local area the last
week in March. This is a group of young professionals, Michel Reznik, Veronica
Cano, Mario Uribe, and Leticia Lizardi and involves an attorney, an accountant,
an engineer, and a pharmacist. All, including the team leader, are from Mexico.
and will arrive in the United States on 10 March, with their area visit
scheduled March 27 through 31, They will be guests of local host families.

Judy Hollander reminded of the PETS Assembly scheduled for March 11-12, to be
held in Indianapolis. This program prepares incoming Rotary presidents.
The next scheduled meeting will have Bob Quirk sharing his writing
experiences and his book, “Real American Stories.”
Carol Clark of the Warren County Local Economic Development office will
present the program on 22 February.
