Local Rotarians Recognize Student Orators

Five Students from two area schools vied for three awards given by the Attica-Williamsport Rotary Club last Wednesday morning at the Harrison Hills Country Club. Jessica Allen, Kaylie Crane, and Lindsay Larson of Attica, and Anna DeVillez and Maggie Johnson from Seeger presented speeches. The given topic was one of the tenants of all Rotarians, "Service above Self."

From Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Martin Luther King to local individuals both young and old, were cited as examples of giving of themselves for the good of others as well as lending influence to the lives of the five speakers. The teachers who accompanied the students, Mrs. Lori McAdams from Attica and Mr. David Baker from Seeger, did not go unnoticed for their support and encouragement in their preparation.

Speeches were limited to not more than seven minutes and at the end of the day, Anna DeVillez was awarded first place and a check for $75.00; Maggie Johnson placed second and received $50.00. Lindsay Larson won third place and $25.00 in prize money.

Priscilla Davis chaired the contest. Judges were Chris Allmand, Harold Long, and Sandy White.
