The many faces of Bob Shepherd

"Ravine Park...Past and Present"

Bob Shepherd, President of the Attica Community Foundation and Historic Landmarks, presented a program on Attica’s Ravine Park.  He punctuated his remarks with a PowerPoint program of pictures of the Park from its very beginnings, through the Chautauqua period, and the efforts of the Marshall Rueben Beamer and his wife to make it a place of unequaled beauty. Together, the Beamers assumed responsibility for creating a park suitable for recreation and relaxation and sustained the cost of those efforts. Marshall Beamer came to Attica from Warren County. He commanded a civil war unit when he was 14 and served the City of Attica as Marshall for many years.

Priscilla Davis commented on the speech contest being sponsored by the local club. Seeger is the only school in the area having a speech class but that should not limit participation by students from other schools or from home-school groups. The theme of speeches is “Service Above Self.” The winner will go to the District and the winner of the district will move on to the finals to be held in Muncie. Participants will present their speeches, limited to 5 to 7 minutes, on 22 February at the Harrison Hills Country Club immediately following the scheduled Rotary meeting.

Priscilla Davis reported  that Chris Woodworth would be at the Attica Library on Thursday, 09 February from 5 to 7 for a book signing of her newest release, “Georgie’s Moon.”  Profits from Ms. Woodworth’s signing would go to benefit the Attica Public Library’s children’s department.  Contact Priscilla at the Library for more information.
