For Immediate Release, 16 Feb 2006 ROTARY TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY EFFORTS IN RECOGNIZING SENATOR HARRISON SERVICE ___________ While another group of Attica citizens gather to plan or to support plans to honor Senator Joseph Harrison, they have secured the support of the local chapter of Rotary Club. In an early morning meeting February 16, a motion was made by Priscilla Davis indicating the strong interest of the Attica-Williamsport Rotary Club in recognizing Senator Harrison, and to share with the Community Planning Committee, the strong measure of support in its efforts. Senator Harrison has two records, unequaled and unchallenged. He holds the longest tenure of any Indiana State Senator in the State of Indiana. For good measure he added to that honor, he has completed twenty-five years as Senate Majority Leader. He currently holds the honorary title of Majority Leader Emeritus. Beyond his service to the State of Indiana, he has served the Attica Schools as a member of its Board of Trustees, giving leadership to the school from which he graduated in 1949. "In the annuls of Attica history, his service is unequaled," said Attica mayor Deon Swift. "Politics aside, this man has given much to the community of Attica. His life has been one of service to others for the benefit of others." Mayor Swift and former mayor Harold Long are serving as co-chairmen of the Retirement Planning Committee. Other committee members are Carolyn Helms, Dolly Zollars, Valarie Maus, Bill and Sandy Deck, Tom O'Connor, and Bob and Melinda Shepherd. The Planning Committee meets on the 22nd of this month to formulate and finalize its plans. End of Article Contributor: Harold Long 762-3340 |
