“That’s how it was, in those days.”
And Bob Quirk, son of Griff, shared stories from his newly
published book, Real American Stories.
Pictured here, the once Montgomery elementary schoolmaster and
now author Quirk gleaned his book and related not only stories of his
mariner father and his adventurous school-teacher mother, sagas of the War
of the Rebellion, sports, radio and television, but related some general
tales about times and people from the Quirk memory and research for the
members of the Attica-Williamsport Rotary Club last Wednesday morning.
Mr. Quirk signs a copy of his book for Club member and Attica Post Mistress Sandy White
An oft-time visitor to the Attica Library, his cousin, Priscilla Davis, a librarian at the Attica Library, has his book available to interested patrons who might like to read what some might call “Fountain County Foxfire.” His are not recounts of the thoughts of others, they are recollections in the first person, a nice addition to any Americana collection, unimagined but real anecdotes of an “unaffected Andy Rooney with a real feel for the human condition.” But prior to Mr. Quirk, there was other business and Mr.Geyer shared an email from our most recent Ambassadorial Scholar, Angela Rusk who arrived in Australia to begin her new life down under. She arrived safely and recounted some of her early experiences in her new home. President Geyer also shared the success of the local club in its purchase of wheelchairs indicating that members had donated enough capital to purchase more than 55 units, a gift from the heart by those who locally share the thought, “service above self.” More The revised constitution and by-laws revisions were unanimously accepted with thanks to Bob Shepherd for his work in those changes. Priscilla Davis announced that more than a dozen high school students would present their monologues to the club and other interested persons at an extension of the regular Rotary meeting on February 22. The Harrison Hills Country Club will be the scene of memorized and extemporaneous speeches by the future of Fountain and Warren counties. But prior to that, Carol Clark of Warren County’s Economic Development office will present the program. Mr. Martin Marcus, National
Economist, will address the club on March 1. Judy Hollander reminded of the PETS Assembly scheduled for March 11-12, to be
held in Indianapolis. This program prepares incoming Rotary presidents. Martha Geyer is shown putting a dollar in the "Happy Bucks" basket at the last meeting. She said it was because of the very special Valentines Day celebration provided by husband Bob. No details were available at the time of this posting.
