Memories of Carolyn __________________
December 20, 2007
Suzann Shackleton When I asked Carolyn if she wouldn't like to come to the Attica-Williamsport Rotary Club, she responded that she didn't have an occupation. I told her that she was a Community Philanthropist and also asked if she wasn't a Registered Nurse. She said she was no longer a practicing nurse; she had quit when her sons were little. Within a few weeks after joining Rotary, she asked me as her Sponsor what she needed to do to make a contribution to The Rotary Foundation before the end of the year. She made a contribution which was split between The Annual Program Fund and Polio Eradication resulting in her becoming a Paul Harris Fellow at the January 2003 Anniversary Celebration. She became a Charter Member of the District 6560 Paul Harris Society in November 2005. She was on the A-W RC Board of Directors from 2005-2007.
Carolyn was a Community Philanthropist.
She was the Immediate Past President of the Associate Chapter of Tri
Kappa and enjoyed supporting the projects of the Active Tri Kappa
Chapter. She was a donor of the Warren County Community Foundation and
a member of the Finance Committee. She organized the Attica High School
Class of 1954 renovation of the entrance to Bruce Field. Carolyn was a
member and treasurer of the Monday Afternoon Club. She was a supporter
of the Williamsport-Warren County Public Library. She donated a bridge
in Attica Ravine Park. She was an avid bridge player and organized
Duplicate Bridge in the community.
Carolyn enjoyed being a part
of organizing and supporting parties and celebrations in her home and at
The Beef House even when she was not well enough to attend. She seemed
to thoroughly enjoy the Warren County Community Foundation Donor
Recognition Dinner on November 1, 2007 and had an opportunity to share
with Judy O'Bannon. Her house was decorated and the tables were set to
host the Associate Tri Kappa Christmas Luncheon on December 14.
Carolyn's wisdom and support will be
truly missed. She was a special friend to many. She shared her time,
talent and treasure with the Attica-Williamsport communities as well as
the world through Rotary.
