Hello everyone,
Sorry it's been a little bit since I've been
able to e-mail. I've been busily finishing up this first semester.
I just handed in my last LARGE assessment so I wanted to take time to e-mail
you.
This past month of May has been mainly filled
with Uni work, presentations, and assessments. I also gave a Rotary
presentation to my host club - The Rotary Club of Carlton. I will send
pictures when I am able to get them downloaded onto my computer.
The presentation went very well and all of the Rotarians enjoyed hearing of
Indiana and the many different service projects the Attica-Williamsport Rotary
Club is involved in. The presentation lasted approximately 30 minutes
and I was easily able to connect to their projector, thus I was able to
supplement my presentation with PowerPoint slides. The Rotarians
also enjoyed looking at travel Indiana brochures, hearing about the
Indianapolis 500, and receiving the Indiana state quarters. They
were impressed that we were able to collect so many.
I will give another Rotary presentation this
coming Wednesday evening at the East Malvern/Chadstone Rotary Club. I
have been asked to focus on the international projects the Attica-Williamsport
Rotary Club participates in, while Mary, another scholar, will be presenting
on the war in Iraq (She is a member of the National Army Reserve). My
presentation will be at their evening meeting from 6:30-8pm. I will then
be picked up by one of my "adopted mum's" who will take me to the
airport. I fly out of Melbourne for Hong Kong at 11pm that night (14th).
I have been in contact with Peter Wan, the DG of Hong Kong. He will be
at the Copenhagen Convention when I arrive, but plans on returning to
Hong Kong before I leave. I have not been able to set up any
presentations at this time, but Peter has forwarded my name onto the
Scholarship chair, so hopefully I will be able to at least attend a
meeting while in Hong Kong.
Also while in Hong Kong my housemate, Carol,
has told me that her family and I will also be traveling to China for a
few days. I am quite excited that I will be able to see a
variety of areas in Hong Kong and a small area of China as well! I
do not need a visa to travel to Hong Kong, but a visa is required to travel to
China, so I will be applying for an express, single entry visa first thing
when I arrive in Hong Kong. Luckily I'll have Carol to speak
Cantonese for me! Mine is VERY VERY LIMITED! I'm hoping to learn
to at least say "Hi. My name is Angela." before I leave.
I do know how to sign my name though.
Even though I'm finished with my uni
assignments I will have no time for relaxing. Carol and I will be
quickly packing up the whole house before we leave on Wednesday. She is
returning to Hong Kong for at least 5 months if not permanently and I have to move
out of my current home by 30th June. I am still in the process of
looking for a new home with my next housemate. Luckily she will still be
looking while I'm in Hong Kong, but that means that everything has to be packed/boxed
so that when I return (28th June) we can quickly move everything. I
am also planning and throwing a get together for Carol on Monday (before
she leaves), so this is also occupying a lot of my time.
I hope that everyone is doing well back home
and enjoying some nice weather. It is winter over here, and although it
doesn't really get that cold outside, my home only has 1 gas heater in the
central living room, so it gets quite cold at nights. My alarm clock has
a thermometer on it and it reads at 10.3 degrees Celsius which is about 51
degrees Fahrenheit in the mornings. I am definitely looking forward to
the hot weather I have been told is waiting for me in Hong Kong:)
Have a good weekend!
Cheers,
Angela
