Hello Suzann:)
I was just sitting down to write you when I recieved your e-mail. I did
have an "exciting" trip over to Australia. My plane in
Indianapolis left the airport 2 hours late due to a central fuel tank problem,
leaving us with only 2 tanks instead of 3 tanks. That meant that we also
had a make an unscheduled stop over in Omaha, NE for 30 minutes to get the
needed fuel to get to Denver. We were actually sitting on the plane while
waiting to have the airport mechanics fix/drain the central tank. Due to
all of the delays and extra distances travelled, I missed (as well as most
others) my connecting flight out of Denver. We didn't' get into Denver
until 9:30ish PM their time and my plane left 8:08PM. United airlines gave
me a voucher for a hotel stay that night, which meant I wasn't able to actually
leave for Australia until 24 hours later, as there are few flights out of LA to
Australia. I ended up arriving in Australia on Sun 12 at 11:20am verses
Sat 11 at 11:20am. Luckily I was able to get a hold of my family and the
family who was supposed to pick me up to inform them of my change in flight
plans. I am now in Glen Waverely, getting my room set up. Currently
I do not have internet access to my room yet, so my friends have let me use the
internet at their home.
I attended the Carlton Rotary Meeting on Tuesday afternoon. The meeting
location is on campus at 1pm; unfortunately, it appears that I also have class
at 1pm on Tuesdays as well (at least for the first few weeks) My course
schedule hasn't been officially set yet (as of yesterday). Everyone was
very nice and the club welcomed me with open arms. I did find out that I
have a different host counselor as my original host counselor is no longer with
the Carlton Rotary Club. Melissa is my interim host counselor for the
time; however, she is 5 months pregnant with her first baby and not sure how
much time will be taken with this. I also met Father Michael who also
stated he might also be a co-counselor as well. They are both very nice.
I was told yesterday that my money should have been sent to Vicki (my original
counselor), so Micheal was to track it down yesterday or today. I do have
to have the money before I can officially enroll in school. I had no
difficulties setting up a bank account and am just awaiting my initial set up
period before I can access the account. This will make it much easier to
deposit my Rotary money and then write a check to the school.
My orientation to school starts tomorrow (16 Thurs) and classes officially begin
on 27 Mon. It sounds like it will be quite intensive, but I am looking
forward to gaining more pediatric knowledge.
I want to send a VERY HEART FELT AND SINCERE THANK YOU!!!!!! to you, Steve, and
the Attica-Williamsport Rotary Club for all of your support and assistance in
preparing me for my experience as an Ambassadorial Scholar! The
Attica-Williamsport Rotary Club truly exemplifies what "Service Above
Self" truly means!! I will keep you all updated as I am able.
Sincerely,
Angela
